After posting a day in my life many commented on how early I get up to workout. This hasn't always been the case. So, for Fit Friday, I wanted to give you some motivation to get up and move.
I'm a morning person, but not a early-morning person. I would say that my prime is 7-9am, NOT 4:45am. Being in school and not having my afternoons free has forced me to figure out when and where I'm going to workout. For me, working out is not an option. I work out about 3-5 times a week, whether that's running, strength training, or squeezing in a pilates or yoga class here or there.
A good friend of mine told me she was waking up at 4:30 and going to the gym before work. I instantly thought to myself "That is crazy! I could never do that!". Then I started thinking about it. How beautiful would it be to get my workout done in the morning and then not stress about it in the afternoon? Plus, working out in the morning makes me feel amazing. I leave the gym thinking to myself "Bring on the day"! I feel like I can do anything once I've had a good workout in the morning. Now, I may be that girl whose eyes are half open, with a little bit of mascara smudged that wouldn't come off the night before, and not really making eye contact because she can't see quite well that early. But I get it done and it feels great.
Here's my tips to make it happen:
1. Lay everything out the night before.
I put everything in the bathroom so I don't wake up the Mr. Once a week he will go with me, twice if he's gotten enough sleep. He is definitely not a morning person.
Laying everything out the night before definitely helps. And, I don't just get my gym clothes ready. I pack my lunch and school bag, set my coffee pot, and if I'm really on top of it I'll lay out my work clothes as well (but that's usually a fat chance).
2. Surround yourself with motivating sayings.
Pinterest is my number place to go when I need a pick me up.
3. Find someone to keep you accountable.
My friend Colleen is up in the morning because she is crazy and goes to the gym too. So I'll text her when I'm on my way and she'll send me back a little text of cheer. Just having this is so helpful. If you're able to have a friend to work out with that morning-do it! I find that when I work out with a friend, I push myself so much harder versus just by myself. Even though Coleen and I don't actually work out together, just sending each other texts holds us accountable. Plus, she's pretty hard core and I don't like looking like a slacker.
4. Just go.
Don't think, just go. When I set my alarm I put a motivating saying so when my phone goes off at 4:40 it tells me "You're worth it". The hardest part is getting up and out the door. Once you start exercising from there it's a piece of cake!
